"the death of painting" again?by Asandra The first time I heard of "the death of painting," was many years ago when I was still living in New York. What a shock it was, as a dedicated painter, to discover that I had become obsolete. Nonetheless, I continue to be passionate about painting, regardless of the fact that I might not be in fashion. The true issue with what has transpired in the art world over the last several decades, is not only a lack of mastery over technique but also a petulant unwillingness to develop this mastery. The romantic idea of the artist as a commentator on society has given far too much credibility to the artistically immature. I look forward to the day when it will be revelatory to reintroduce painting as the exciting new medium in the arts world. After all, most trends eventually come full circle.
