Performance Into Painting Performance
by Onajídé Shabaka
David Rohn creates personages that are sharp and
witty. And he does it with a feeling of authenticity. When he gets
into character, he is there. His paintings, though "curated" are
also authentic, in their sense of reality and their presentation
to their audience.
Rohn’s new
paintings use multiple canvases with composite paintings to create
three-dimensional (sculptural) objects. His familiar figurative
images are arranged into geometrically abstract forms, examining
two- and three-dimensional spatial relationships, abstraction
and figuration and, subject and object.
As Brünte Klaus, renowned Viennese curator
and critic, we take a curator's guided tour of the exhibition including,
questions and answers from the audience. Ms. Klaus does a marvelous
job of the exhibition tour and provides insight into the work she
has curated.

in the artist's show back in 2003. His performance is intended
as a parallel event that highlights his interest in reconstituting
familiar conditions to yield insight and meaning from them.
The exhibition will open to the public on April 14th, 2007 from
