   Craig Kucia's Imagination

    by Onajídé Shabaka

Craig Kucia's work was at the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood near the newly opening Young Circle in downtown Hollywood (FL). Social awareness, drawn in an ironic way is what we find in Kucia's work. His paintings are works combined with a realism that makes the brush and paint obvious, while being thinly abstract. But, on some level the work has a comic/ graphic emotion while pushing our vision toward photographic imagination. The intergration of flat and modeled within the same painting gives the eye a playground of confusing space which sometimes works to greater benefit than at other times. However, each of the works unique character and subject can keep the mind and eye busy deciphering their nuances.
